133 – New mini Airstream

Share

19 February 2009

This caught my eye – it’s being launched at the National Boat, Caravan & Outdoor Show. And marks the European debut of a real design icon: the Airstream Bambi.

Caravanning has not been something I’ve ever gone for. But an Airstream is something different: sleek; streamlined; lightweight; and finished in aluminium. Just a brilliant piece of design.

I’ve always fancied hooking up and going with an Airstream.

Airstream reckons that you don’t need a 4×4 to tow this new Bambi model, because it’s smaller. It means my Audi A4 could tow it. Or a VW Golf diesel. Sounds tempting.

I had a look at the pricing of out Airstreamers on the website. Phew! They don’t come cheap. But Airstream does make the point that, over 70% of Airstreams ever made are still on the road being used.

In other words, over its lifetime, the price can be amortised to something more affordable. But for now I’ll put off that hitch up and go urge!
