Buy used, and get the M-B cachet on the cheap
A NEW Mercedes E-Class. It meant I couldn’t resist a quick revisit to my old 1992 E-Class Estate – a Mk2 version.
What I loved about this car was its outstanding classiness allied to its wonderful practicality. As in the picture here it was being used for Topper sailing duties with my son; yet it was equally at home going to a business conference (where it won best presented car by the way).
No doubt the latest E-Class will offer more of the same. I’ve seen the car in the metal at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s big, so loading up should not be a problem. But like my old E-Class Estate (now sadly gone) it has all the Mercedes pedigree and cachet.
And buying them used, means you get all that fantastic engineering at a fraction of the cost new. Although we’ll be waiting many, many years before the latest E-Class Estate becomes truly affordable on the used car market. But time to look out a good Mk4?
