TWELVE female LeasePlan employees are getting ready for a 100 kilometre 18 day ski-trek across the Arctic; their strength and endurance were put to the test last Friday during a training day with Andrew Musgrave, renowned British cross-country skier.
The morning started with “roller-skiing” on the Dorney Lake banks, during which the women wore half a metre long small blades, with a wheel at each end; these are designed to mimic the technique of cross-country skiing.
The women practiced camping that included putting up tents, preparing food and performing other important survival task
After the session, Andrew offered the women valuable tips on how to stay motivated during a gruelling schedule that includes 10 hours per week across various terrains, pulling tyres with a harness to try and mimic the 25kg sledge that will be used during the expedition.
In the afternoon session, the women practiced camping that included putting up tents, preparing food and performing other important survival tasks.
The Women’s Arctic Challenge is part of the LeasePlan’s diversity and inclusion initiative. The all-female team will be going on a 100 kilometre ski-trek in minus 15 degree temperatures across Baffin Island; the expedition will be led by professional adventurer, Debra Searle MVO MBE.
Andrew Musgrave said;
“I feel very proud and privileged to be working with such an adventurous and inspiring group of women. As an experienced cross-country skier, I know how demanding this trek is going to be, and I admire their commitment and strength of character.”
