What is it?

This is Audi’s BMW 5 Series rival – the Audi A6. And the 2.0-litre turbo diesel Audi A6 is the key business model in the A6 range. It’s fitted with a lively 140PS/42mpg+ engine linked up to a Multitronic auto – a continuously variable transmission that’s always in the correct gear for greater efficiency. It can be used as a fixed gear seven-speed manual, too. S line trim adds sporty styling and suspension.

What’s hot?

  • The A6 is a large and comfortable executive saloon
  • The exceptional detail (think aluminium inlays) and finish of the interior
  • Spacious and classy cabin
  • Spritely engine is refined on the motorway
  • Smooth auto system
  • Easy-use Multi Media Interface (MMI) controls stereo, satnav, phone
  • Huge boot

What’s not?

  • That huge boot: it’s restricted by a narrow opening
  • It’s a long car: specify optional parking sensors
  • Engine can be vocal until warmed through
  • S line suspension maybe too firm for some tastes

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Is the Audi A6 as good to drive as a 5 Series? In terms of driving dynamics, it’s not. But that doesn’t stop this A6 being a hugely desirable and satisfying car to drive and own. Drive one and you’ll appreciate the A6’s understated image and deep-seated classiness – along with its low tax bills and frugal running costs.
