LOOKERS has opened its first nationwide new and used multi-franchise Car HUB concept in Middlesbrough.

Now open to the public following a £6 million investment, the distinctively modern and unique centre focuses on all-electric driving and specialises in multi-franchise vehicle sales, service, maintenance and cosmetic repair and incorporates Middlesbrough’s largest on-site education and advice centre.

The site, which is located off Cargo Fleet Lane and South Bank Road, also accommodates two new standalone dealerships for Ford and for BYD – Lookers’ first official showcase of the groundbreaking Chinese EV brand and purposely built to showcase the all-new BYD ATTO 3, Dolphin and SEAL models.

The first-of-its-kind 25,500 sq. m. sustainable car retail concept boasts six 150kW EV rapid chargers – capable of providing a 100-kilometre range to EV drivers in as little as six minutes.

Open 24 hours a day, the new EV charging hub can power up to 480 cars in a single day, providing a significant boost to Middlesbrough’s EV charging infrastructure.

With an experienced, knowledgeable new team, the new EV Experience Centre will help to provide motorists with all the information they need about electric cars, including test drives, ahead of the UK Government’s ban on sales of new petrol and diesel-powered cars in 2035.

Lookers’ Chief Operating Officer Duncan McPhee said: “Lookers Car HUB in Middlesbrough is an exciting new concept – a one stop shop where customers can buy a quality new or used vehicle, book in for repair work for any car brand, recharge or refuel their car, and learn about the future of sustainable motoring,”

“With space for more than 300 cars, an onsite workshop and Middlesbrough’s first EV Experience Centre packed with resources, we’re proud to be leading the charge for a greener, more sustainable future in Teesside and the wider area.

“Our aim is to provide knowledgeable, free and unbiased advice about electric driving, offering local residents and visitors the chance to directly experience the powerful motoring and environmental benefits which electric vehicles can bring while also servicing the needs of every motorist in the here and now.”

Lookers said its investment will help Middlesbrough Council achieve its ambition to ensure that Middlesbrough as a town is net carbon neutral by 2029 as sales of battery electric vehicles continues to grow. Middlesbrough Council gave the green light for the plans in 2023.

Last year, Lookers also invested £3 million transforming its Volkswagen dealership in Teesside, bringing both its local VW car and van sites together into one consolidated location at the redeveloped Newport Road location.

In January this year, it officially opened its officially new Nissan showroom in Sunderland as the brand looks to improve on its sizeable presence in the northeast. The site, on Newcastle Road, opens after a £1.8m investment from Lookers to transform its former Ford premises for the Japanese brand.
