When you’re not running your business, what do you do to relax?
Spending time with my kids (not that relaxing to be honest) or sport. I have too many interests and not enough spare time to fit them in but the main ones are cycling, swimming , sailing and then skiing in the winter. I’ve also just started taekwondo with my kids, which is good fun, although I’m struggling with the Korean language.
What’s your favourite restaurant or style of food?
I’m a big fan of South East Asian street food, having spent some time in the region when I was backpacking living on a few quid a day I found this the best of both worlds, cheap and really tasty.
Where’s your favourite place to holiday?
This is not an easy one but on balance I’d say sailing around the islands in the Med
If you could unwind one decision or moment in your life, what would it be?
Shouldn’t have sold my first flat to go backpacking, I should have kept it and rented it out. I came back to find that prices had more than doubled whilst I’d been away and spent the next two years in denial that the market would drop again!!
The best funder conference after party?
Clearly I’m biased here!
We say FCA, you say…
Short term pain, Long term gain!
Emoji – use them or despise them?
I’m proud to say I have never used one and don’t intend to start either.
Who is your business hero?
It’s got to be Richard Branson for me; he’s created a brand that people want to buy and company that people want to work for, particularly with the airline. My sister worked for Virgin Atlantic in the 80’s when he had just started out and I remember flying on a really old 747 when he only had four planes, so I feel a connection with the company and it’s great to see the business thriving elsewhere in the world.
Does your business support local charities?
Yes, LeasePlan supports lots of different charities; each team member takes one day off a year to work with a charity of their choice. In addition as a company we’re supporting Help for Heroes.
Greatest sporting moment of the year so far?
Japan beating South Africa in the RWC!
