MINIMIZING company car tax bills is the aim of the game and there’s no better vehicle at doing this than an electric one.
Buy an electric vehicle (EV) today and your company car tax bill will amount to absolutely nothing because they emit no CO2.
The company car tax rules are set to change, however. In April 2015 cars that emit between 0-50g/km will attract a five per cent BIK rating. Still, that’s still not very much to hand over to the taxman.
The time it takes to charge an electric car varies depending on the model, but the cost of recharging doesn’t. Roughly, covering one mile in an EV works out at around two to four pence per mile, while a conventional petrol or diesel vehicle is 10-14 pence. That means covering 10,000 miles per year could cost you up to £1,400 in petrol or diesel while electricity will only set you back around £400.
So the savings in running costs are obvious, but which are the best EVs on the market?
