Foldaway scooters reduce delivery pollution

Motorised scooters that fold away are being used by National Car Rental in a new environmental initiative.

It’s part of the daily rental company’s collection and delivery service for small business customers.

The foldaway scooters are stored in the car boot during delivery. Once delivered, the driver unpacks the scooter and rides away – which saves using a second vehicle.

New scheme to tackle urban air quality and congestion

The same happens in reverse when the vehicle is collected: a scooter is used to reach the location, then the driver simply packs the foldaway  scooter into the car boot – and drives back to the branch.

The foldaway scooters are being used in 23 urban locations. There are plans to expand this in 2007. National says it helps reduce congestion, and produces fewer emissions.

“National’s growing use of this approach is an illustration of our commitment to reducing our environmental impact,” commented Brian Jayes, vice president of UK Operations, National Car Rental.

“The scooters are eco-friendly and will contribute towards reducing congestion in towns and cities.”
