It isn’t summer yet, but when it comes it is best to be ready

WE’RE approaching the final month of winter and you are likely chomping at the bit to take your motorbike out of the garage. If you are like most bikers, you have pondered ways to conserve fuel. While motorbikes are inherently fuel efficient, you can save even more money by adopting fuel conservation strategies.

Don’t delay your warmup

While just about every biker enjoys warming up his bike, it isn’t always necessary. You can jump right into your riding session without letting the engine warm up for more than a few seconds. Motorbikes are built to ride in an instant so hop right on and get right into your voyage. This way you won’t waste fuel and your bike will quickly achieve its optimal operating temperature. This will serve to boost combustion efficiency and improve fuel economy.

Decrease the cruising speed

While it is important to avoid unnecessary slowdowns to conserve fuel, you should also do your best to decrease your cruising speed. Cruising at high speeds is extremely addictive but it burns too much fuel. So cruise at the speed limit and you’ll save money on gasoline and avoid a costly ticket. Also, take care to not twist your bike’s throttle too hard or too quickly as it can harm your motorbike’s fuel economy.

Regular maintenance

Motorbikes operate at their peak efficiency when their engines are properly maintained. Bring your bike in to a mechanic for regular maintenance sessions. He’ll perform all sorts of upkeep on your engine and its surrounding parts. He’ll adjust the timing/valves, ensure that the air filter is clean, check your fuel filter and verify that the spark plugs are fresh. These seemingly minor details can make a substantial difference in your motorbike’s fuel economy. It is worth noting that some motorbike riders even choose to utilise a lower friction oil for lubrication in order to save even more fuel.

Be mindful of your riding style

Try to ride your motorbike in an even-keeled manner. Stay aware of your speed and keep it as constant as possible. Focus on fluid throttle inputs as well. If you ride with these objectives in mind, you’ll smooth out your ride and notice that your bike achieves better fuel economy. You’ll also have a much more enjoyable ride as well.

Monitor your tire pressure

You’ve probably heard that your automobile can obtain better fuel economy when its tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The same is also true of motorbikes. You can boost your mileage per gallon by inflating your motorbike’s tires to the correct PSI. This will also give you more control over your motorbike.

Shed those pounds

Don’t store a bunch of extra gear or supplies in the rear of your motorbike. This added weight only forces your bike to work that much harder and reduces its fuel efficiency. Empty your bike’s saddlebags as much as you can. You might even want to consider completely removing them until you are ready to use them for a specific trip. Only carry the bare minimum and you’ll achieve optimal fuel economy.
