Ooh, aah, what a blingy car!

  • Urus claims fastest SUV with 600hp;
  • Green credential with hybrid technology and lowest CO2 emissions;
  • Poles away from last ‘Rambo Lambo’;
  • Launches 2017 with cutting edge technology.

LAMBORGHINI is returning to its mud-plugging tractor roots with the expected launch of a new 4×4 supercar boasting a forest worth of stump-pulling 600 horsepower.

It’s the glamorous Italian manufacturer’s first off-road supercar since the late ‘Rambo Lambo’ LM002 of the ‘80s and ‘90s but instead of the hairy-chested Humvee look, the new Lamborghini Urus is an altogether more sophisticated welly wearer.

Here’s the ultimate set of Shire wheels to go glamping at the smartest rock festivals by the summer of 2017.

Lamborghini is claiming the Urus will be the fastest SUV in production thanks to its powerful hybrid engine system, possibly using the Audi developed V8 or V10 used in other Lamborghinis, and a body shell making extensive use of lightweight carbon fibre.

But company car users planning on blowing the annual bonus on something special will also appreciate the use of hybrid power with a light chassis allows the factory also to claim the Urus will achieve best-in-class economy and CO2 emissions.

It is also very compact measuring just 1.7 metres high and likely to attract the footballers’ wives away from their Range Rover Evoques.

Naturally, these blinged up customers will expect cutting edge technology including camera views for parking and manoeuvring, monitors instead of wing mirrors, full internet connectivity and a rear spoiler that adjusts depending on road speed and surface.

Despite being pitched against other high-end rivals including the Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce’s SUV, the Maserati Levante and Porsche stable-mate Cayenne Turbo S, the factory expect to produce up to 3,000 Urus cars each year.

No prices have been indicated but, while it’s expected to share some components with the Porsche Cayenne to keeps production costs down, the badge will still command a premium among the luxury SUV competition.
