A PLUG-IN hybrid Volkswagen Golf, pumping out 400PS, is set to steal the show at this year’s Wörthersee Tour festival for fans of the VGA Group’s cars.
And with that sort of power, the Golf GTE Sport concept is set to outshine its concept sibling, the Golf GTI Clubsport boasting a ‘mere’ 265PS.
As a concept car, the Golf GTE Sport with its carbon body, completely new cockpit design and “electric propshaft” is how the VW designers see the future for the iconic hot-hatch. By contrast, the Golf GTI Clubsport is the almost here-and-now and will be released to mark the 40th birthday of the Golf GTI next year.
- Highlights to get the sparks flying with the Golf GTE Sport include:
- Petrol/electric motors deliver 400PS;
- GTE Sport accelerates to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of up to 174 mph;
- Plug-in hybrid technology using three motors claims 141mpg;
- Space age avant-garde carbon body design;
- Digital instruments arranged on three levels inspired by motor racing.
