IT WAS Honda’s only supercar and it was a big hit back in the Nineties – now there’s going to be a new NSX and the UK pre-order banks have been opened, even though its not due to arrive until 2015.

Phil Crossman, Managing Director, Honda (UK), said; “We are really pleased with the interest we’ve already seen for the new NSX. We are still two years away from the launch of the car and yet we’ve received over 20 deposits and that’s before we’ve even announced prices or seen the final production car.”

The NSX Concept, which sets the tone for the new model, was first shown at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show.

The NSX will be a hybrid powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injected V6 engine and two electric motors. It will have all-wheel drive. Honda’s US design and production operations will take the lead in developing and making the new car.

The original NSX was in production from 1990 to 2005. A total of 18,000 were sold around the world, of which 290 turned up in the UK.

Hybrids are an effective way for improbable cars to duck company car tax, so look out for the numbers as more details of the NSX emerge.
