HONDA unveiled an all-new electric sports car at the Tokyo Motor Show as a follow up to its well received Urban EV concept shown at last month’s Frankfurt Show.
The new Sports EV Concept formed part of a broad range of advanced two- and four-wheeled production and concept vehicles in Tokyo which also included new Super Cub motorcycles celebrating 60 years or production.
Honda said its development team designed the Sports EV concept to “to realise the joy of driving the user can feel with a sense of unity with the car”, achieved by efficiently combining the EV power unit and AI technology in a compact bodyshape. No word yet on when this could morph into a production model but the indications are that it is likely to happen.
Definitely going into production will be the Urban EV with Europe being the lead market. Following rave reviews in Frankfurt, a production version will arrive in 2019.
On a more conventional front Honda showcased the all new CR-V retaining an evolution of the car’s design The fifth generation model includes the implementation in of Honda’s two motor hybrid technology – i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive).
On a different tack, Honda showed the latest iteration of its NeuV personal mobility concept first seen in January at Consumer Eelectronics Show in Las Vegas.
This showcases an electric mobility concept for the commuter. Equipped with the brand’s artificial intelligence engine – Honda Automated Network Assistant– its autonomous driving capability incorporates driver monitoring to determine driver stress from facial expressions and tone of voice, in order to support safer driving.
NeuV learns about the driver’s lifestyle and preferences over time, so that it can suggest new routes and activities, realising a natural relationship between driver and machine.
