A POWERFUL new turbocharged straight-six engine will provide the grunt for BMW’s latest pocket-rocket, the BMW M2 Coupé.
The 3.0-litre straight-six engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, produces 370hp, which when coupled with the optional seven-speed M DCT gearbox, sprints the M2 from rest to 62mph in just 4.3 seconds and on up to an electronically limited 155mph.
M2 highlights
- New six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology: 3.0 litres, 370hp;
- From zero to 62mph in just 4.3sec with optional M DCT gearbox and 155mph top speed;
- Limited slip diff and lap timer in connectivity suite;
- On sale April 2016 priced from £44,070 OTR
Despite the pace, BMW claim a combined fuel economy of 35.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 185g/km, comparatively friendly for benefit-in-kind tax.
The ‘smart’ gearbox allows for blipping the throttle on down changes and even has a Smokey Burnout function, which allows the driver to indulge in a degree of wheelspin while the car is moving at low speeds.
Stopping power comes from four-piston fixed callipers on the front wheels and two-piston fixed callipers on the rear, which are painted in a blue metallic finish and display the M logo at the front axle.
The electrically power-assisted steering system features an integrated Servotronic function with M-specific characteristics that vary with road speed. Two settings – COMFORT and SPORT/SPORT+ – allow drivers to adjust the steering’s power assistance at any time.
