Mazda6 2.2 SKYACTIV-D 150PS Sport Nav Tourer review
What is it?
THIS is the updated Tourer estate version of our 2015 Best SME Large Company Car – the Mazda6.
Highlights include improved standard equipment, revised interior with seven-inch colour touch screen and technology enhanced features, including adaptive LED headlights.
What’s hot?
- The 148bhp 2.2 SKYACTIV diesel is unchanged, but is still impressive because of its 67.3mpg combined fuel economy and CO2 emissions of just 108 g/km.
- A smooth, refined and willing engine, it is well-matched to a slick six-speed manual transmission. Acceleration to 62mph takes 9.2 seconds and the top speed is 130mph.
- This Mazda6 isn’t particularly sporty to drive, but you’ll still be impressed at how dynamic it feels. Yes, there’s more bodyroll than a new Mondeo, but the steering is pleasingly precise and there’s plenty of grip from the 17-inch alloys.
- The current Mazda6 Tourer is a great-looking car and Mazda appears to agree, as tweaks to the grille, plus LED front and rear lights, are limited to the Sport Nav trim like our test car.
- When compared to rivals, the interior design, plus fit and finish of the Mazda6 has lagged behind its competitors. However, the updated model addresses these issues, with a new seven-inch colour screen mounted at the top of the centre console, controlling amongst other things the sat-nav system. Our test car was fitted with black leather trim, which extends over the dashboard and looked really premium.
- On top of looking great, there’s plenty of space for four inside the Mazda6 Tourer. The estate is the more practical of the two models, with 522 litres of boot space.
- The 108g/km CO2 emissions mean the Mazda6 2.2 SKYACTIV-D 150PS Sport Nav falls into the competitive 19% company car tax band for 2014/15.
- Despite this car costing £27,195, our range-topping Sport Nav trim test car was good value against rivals, such as the new Ford Mondeo.
