New Blue models drive down company car tax

FIVE new low-emission business car models, labelled Blue by Hyundai, will lower company car tax for drivers and reduce business car running costs.

Four of the new Blue Hyundai models will be below 100g/km CO2, which means they automatically qualify for the 100% first year writing down allowance for sub-100g/km cars.

The fifth, the ix35 SUV, has emissions of 135g/km, which places it comfortably below the next tax break of 160g/km, attracting a 20% writing down allowance rate.

The Blue range, similar to Volkswagen’s Bluemotion and Ford’s ECOmotive branding, reflects a range of emission-reducing features. These include Hyundai’s stop-start (Idle Stop & Go) tech, improved underbody aerodynamics and lower rolling resistance tyres.

“Hyundai is now very switched on to reducing the CO2 emissions of its car range to benefit business users,” commented Jeff Peyton-Bruhl, fleet & remarketing manager, Hyundai.

“Already the average CO2 for our range of cars is 133g/km

“Hyundai is now very switched on to reducing the CO2 emissions of its car range to benefit business users,” commented Jeff Peyton-Bruhl, fleet & remarketing manager, Hyundai.

“Already the average CO2 for our range of cars is 133g/km – which is significantly below the European average of 158g/km. By 2012 that average will be 130g/km and by 2020 it will be 95g/km,” Mr Peyton-Bruhl added.

The five business cars in the Blue range are:

    • i10 Blue 69hp 1.0-litre petrol, 99g/km CO2

  • i20 Blue 75hp 1.4-litre diesel, 98g/km CO2

  • ix20 Blue 75hp 1.4-litre diesel, 114g/km CO2

  • i30 Blue 90hp 1.6-litre diesel, 98g/km CO2

  • ix35 Blue 115hp 1.7-litre diesel, 135g/km CO2

Mr Peyton-Bruhl said the introduction of Hyundai Blue models would commence with the i10 Blue in early 2011.
