New Dispatch-based taxi provides wheelchair access

PRIVATE car hire firms can broaden their local business base with new wheelchair-accessible taxis.

The Dispatch-based Citroen EuroTaxi is offered on either L1 or L2 models and is available equipped to full Hackney cab specification. It is built by Allied Vehicles and will be sold under Allied’s Cab Direct brand. The Citroen EuroTaxi is available with seating for the driver and up to seven passengers.

Citroen says that, compared with conventional purpose-built taxis, the wheelchair-accessible Citroen EuroTaxi offers significant operational benefits, including greater space for passengers and luggage, together with lower running costs.

Allied Vehicles is also converting the Citroen Dispatch Combi to meet the requirements of large families or small groups, including wheelchair-using passengers. Promoted under the Allied Mobility brand, the Dispatch-based Citroen Independence offers full wheelchair access and is available in L1 or L2 versions.

“We are delighted with this new vehicle supply agreement with the Allied Vehicles Group,” commented Robert Handyside, Citroen’s commercial vehicle operations manager. “The Dispatch is ideally suited for taxi and Motability conversions. It has a competitive price, low running costs and generous passenger carrying capability. In addition, the compact overall dimensions make it ideal for urban and city use by taxi firms.”

The Allied Vehicles Group, which converts the Dispatch, is based in Glasgow, Scotland.
