Conventional thinking on business cars says a diesel should be cheaper on company car tax than a petrol car. Don’t believe it. The Mercedes C180K SE saloon is a good example. It’s cheaper and one tax band lower than its C200 CDI SE diesel equivalent – which means the C180K is better on company car tax. Of course, you should always get what’s most appropriate for your business. But it does show that small businesses can benefit from more informed and flexible decision-making than some large companies with ‘diesel-only’ policies.
