Cutting the cost of business travel - even for MPs

IT SEEMS that our MPs are finally waking up to something that small businesses have known for some time: unnecessary travel costs take profit off the bottom line. Chancellor George Osborne and Chief Secretary to the Treasury David Laws have announced new government rules for using ministerial cars and a ban on first class travel as part of wider spending cuts - typical steps that any well-run small business has already taken to get through the recession. As Matthew Goodman, head of policy at the Forum of Private Business commented: "We believe that smaller businesses are expert at doing more with less. We believe the public sector can learn some valuable lessons from their experiences." You can read more on this in my blog Ministers to learn what small businesses already understand.
