Renault Koleos: good value but high on tax

Renault Koleos Privilege dCi 175 4x4

What is it?

The Renault Koleos is Renault’s first modern-day four-wheel drive model. It pitches up against the Ford Kuga, Nissan X-Trail, Honda CR-V and VW Tiguan. Choice of two 150 or 175bhp turbo diesel engines, plus better than average potential off-road ability: there’s hill descent and hill hold features to simplify cross-country driving. Choice of either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive models.

What's hot?

  • Thoughtful packaging - versatile MPV body with SUV looks
  • Good value, with lots of equipment…
  • …Air con, fog lights, reversing sensors all standard
  • On-road quietness is an outstanding feature
  • Excellent warranty covers Koleos for three years/100,000 miles

What's not?

  • Only modest acceleration, even on higher power model
  • Wide turning circle
  • No petrol model option
  • Steering lacks feel
  • High CO2 emissions equal high company car tax

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

Easy to drive and live with the Renault Koleos possesses abilities most users will not have to test to the maximum. The Koleos also provides good value, ability and sophistication. But Ford’s Kuga and Honda’s CR-V have lower CO2 emissions which will influence business decisions.
