Peugeot 308 SW: versatile estate car

Peugeot 308 SW Sport HDi 110

What is it?

The Peugeot 308 SW is a compact estate-cum-people carrier. The Peugeot 308 SW offers capacity for up to seven people thanks to a third row of occasional seats. Alternatively, the modular arrangement of the seats allows them to be lifted out, making the car a five-, four- three- or even two-seater. There's further practicality thanks to the opening rear tailgate glass, which raises indpendently of the tailgate. Peugeot claims a potential 2149 litres of load capacity. The key business car engine choice is this 1.6-litre 110bhp diesel.

What's hot?

  • Compact length but versatile carrying capacity - up to seven people
  • Panaromic glass roof extends length of roof…
  • …ensuring the compact interior always feels airy
  • Modular seating means there's an arrangement for most requirements
  • High quality of materials and finish throughout, including seats
  • Nicely balanced handling and ride means SW can be hustled along…
  • …Or driven sedately and serenely depending on your mood
  • 19% company car tax band

What's not?

  • Additional row of seats costs £495 in Sport trim
  • Removable seats are heavy, if manageable
  • Accurate steering has strong self-centring action and little feedback

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

No one offers this many seats in a compact estate at this price. Sure there are some cheaper seven-seat MPVs, but rivals? There's the Ford Focus C-Max, but that has only five seats; there's the Honda FR-V which has six; and the Renault Grand Scenic seven - but that's an MPV shape. But none has seven in an estate body. So the Peugeot 308 SW provides a practical solution for business drivers who need stylish carrying capacity - both for goods and family. It's also a very decent drive, too.
