DRIVE a diesel company car and wonder why you’re paying more for diesel at the fuel filling station?
Well the RAC agrees, and this week issued a statement asking retailers to reduce the price of diesel as wholesale costs approach that of unleaded petrol.
If you’ve ever wondered why forecourts charge more for diesel than they do for petrol, the logical conclusion would be that it costs more to make.
However, on Friday 30 May 2014, the wholesale price of unleaded was 103.5p per litre – just half a penny less than diesel. Despite this, retailers are selling latter with a hefty six pence premium at the pumps.
The RAC is now urging the industry to explain why the price of diesel is so much greater than the price of petrol.
This is especially pressing when you consider the gap in wholesale price has been steady since early April – giving the retailers plenty of time to pass on the savings.
