OWNERS of MINIs will soon have Mr Toad-like driving goggles that provide ‘X-Ray’ vision plus all the car’s on-board computer displays.
The goggles will be linked to the car’s infotainment systems delivering information and functions including:
- A virtual ‘X-Ray’ view through A-pillars and doors eliminate blind spots around the car;
- Setting of navigation destinations when out of the vehicle then automatically transferring them to the car on start-up;
- Full journey navigation display;
- Heads-up display of speed, speed limits etc. in the eyewear so the information is in the driver’s primary field of view without obscuring the view ahead;
- Reality is enhanced by contact-analogue navigation arrows “on” the road, as well as display of points of interest along the route, such as open parking spaces;
- Text messages alerts will show up in the eyewear and read out by the car’s audio system if required;
- Augmented Parking view where outside cameras project into the eyewear allowing the distance from the curb can be clearly and easily judged.
