Company Car Review of the Renault Twingo

What is it?

It’s the new Twingo, Renault’s city car now completely refreshed with new style and all new configuration.

You can tell at a glance this latest Twingo is a very different car to the one it replaces: much bolder, with stronger design and with five doors for the first time. Cheekily, it also has the engine out the back…

This shift to rear-engine, rear-drive has come about as the Twingo shares its platform with Smart. At the same time, for aficionados, it’s a layout that harks back to some of the classic Renaults of the past, not least the cult Renault 5 Turbo of the early ‘80s.

As it kicks off, the new Twingo is set up very much as the compact, fun, connected, new age city car with a big range of personalisation also built in.

There are two engine choices – 0.9-litre turbo or 1.0-litre atmo – both petrol, along with three trim levels. The 1.0-litre Dynamique Sce 70 model with Stop & Start comes with headline numbers of 67.3 mpg and 95 g/km for CO2.

But it’s the Dynamique ENERGY Tce 90 S&S model – tested here – that’s the more spirited, with extra power and torque and still with 99 g/km and 12% BIK to give it a usefully low cost threshold. So, is it the best of the new Twingos?
