MERCEDES is giving the SL roadster a mid-life update, and the new cars will be getting a big injection of sporty character thanks to a series mods from the company’s AMG tuning operation.
From June 2013, the SL 350 and SL 500 will be sold as AMG Sport models. The AMG Sports Package includes 19-inch AMG alloys, lower sports suspension with revised damper settings, an AMG body kit, and, in the case of the SL 350, an upgraded braking system as well.
The SL’s seven-speed 7G-Tronic Plus transmission gets modified shift points. The cabin gets sports seats with perforated leather, and designo Platinum White Pearl piping, a sports steering wheel with silver gear shift paddles, AMG floor mats and black fabric roof lining. Overall, the AMG Sports Package provides standard extra equipment worth £6,625.
The SL 350 AMG Sport will cost from £69,960, while the SL 500 AMG Sport starts at £79,970. The range-topping ‘full’ AMG model, the SL 63 AMG, continues to be available at £110,785.
