SEAT Leon
The Leon stepped up to the plate for puppy transportation when the Disco wouldn’t start. Cute aren’t they?

AS A testament to my SEAT Leon’s practicality, try this!

Our sheepdog bitch has an eye for the local working dogs, and since they’re all border collies too, we don’t always object to her indulging herself.

This time the result was a splendid litter of seven pups, and the time came for their visit to the vet.

But the Discovery that would normally swallow up their transport cage was in dock with a dodgy immobiliser. Step forward the Leon, suitably lined with protective sheets of course.

“It’ll never fit”, said Management. “At least if you don’t collapse the sides first.” This with a roll of the eyes and a package of  ‘get-out-of-the-way’ gestures.

Hah! She was wrong! The puppy transport cage did fit in the back of the Leon even with the sides kept up, though admittedly it was a lot easier to get it out again once it was explained that the sides did in fact collapse.

But that’s not the point – which is that a 90x70x60cm cage fits in the back of the Leon, puppies installed, hatchback shut and on our way. Yes it would have been easier if the back seat folded a little flatter but let’s not quibble.

As you see it’s been August, and business trips have been curtailed. The Leon’s been kept busy though, and not just with trips to the vet. The mileage has topped 10,000 and fuel consumption, in spite of the aircon being in almost continuous use, remains a very acceptable 50.4mpg.
