COULD the BMW 5-Series be the finest company car on sale?

Well we think so and considering that you see so many wearing a groove into the tarmac of our roads, we think you’ll probably agree with our choice for 2015 SME Company Car of the Year in the SME Company Car Awards.

But for a car launched back in 2010, how does BMW keep at the top of its game? Well, in the BMW’s case, via a clever face-lift that’s so subtle, if you blink you’ll miss it and by slotting in even more efficient engines to drive down running costs.

A panel of expert judges – chaired by Paul Hollick, Chairman of the Institute of Car Fleet Management  – were impressed with the recently face-lifted 5-Series’ focus on impressive Co2 and fuel consumption figures, standard kit and on top of this, the BMW is still a driver’s car and great to drive.

Our particular winner, the BMW 520d SE Auto, was chosen for its exceptional fuel economy (68.9mpg), low 109g/km emissions and on top of this, there’s plenty of standard kit to keep company drivers happy. The stylish, well-made interior includes sat-nav, leather upholstery, cruise control, Bluetooth and a DAB radio as standard

But, while it is cheap to run, the savings haven’t come at the expense of the driving experience, which is sharp and engaging.

As well as scooping the overall title, the BMW 5-Series also picked up first place in the Best SME Directors Company Car category.
