THE new BMW 5 Series might have only just been launched in the UK, but BMW wasted no time in completing the range – as the elegant Touring or estate version of the 5 Series has made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
At the Geneva Motor Show, Dr Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management, described the 5 Series as being “the ideal car for business, family, sports and leisure activities.”
Seems like an apt description to us, as the new 5 Series Touring is the same technology and efficiency tour de force as the 5 Series saloon we’ve already driven. However, where the Touring scores is with the useful extra practicality of its 570-litre boot. This is 10 litres more than before and can be extended to a very useable 1,700 litres – 30 more than the old one.
Cleverly, the rear seats which fold in a 40:20:40 split, have electric folding backrests and these can be released remotely. Plus there’s a power-operated tailgate and a unique opening tailgate window that’s carried over from the last Touring.
Open to order now and launched this summer, BMW will offer the new 5 Series Touring same choice of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with prices starting at £38,385.
