VAN managers of large company fleets are a hard-headed lot when it comes to recognising reliable value.

But they know a good van when they see it – and operate it.

So perhaps it’s no surprise that the Association of Fleet Car Operators (ACFO) has just voted the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter its best large van for the second successive year and the Ford Transit Connect the best small van for an astonishing eighth successive year.

That’s some commendation. The awards are voted online by the ACFO membership and reflect true operational experience.

Runner up in the large van category was the Ford Transit; in the small van category the VW Caddy.

Bosch picked up the prize for fleet safety initiative for its anti-skid load adaptation control system for light commercial vehicles.

ACFO chairman Julie Jenner commented: “The Awards continue to represent the true face of fleet operations. Fleet decision-makers are reliant on motor manufacturers to deliver vehicles that are cost effective to operate, safe, reliable and environmentally-friendly and supplier companies to provide a first class service.

Ms Jenner continued: “Operating successfully in partnership it means that through the availability of top quality vehicles and first rate suppliers, vehicle downtime can be kept to an absolute minimum and fleet managers can focus on the efficient and effective operation of their vehicles to support their businesses.”

Kevin Griffin, Ford’s fleet director who picked up the award for the Transit Connect, said: “It’s fantastic recognition that the Transit Connect still delivers in the small van market, despite the introduction of so many newer models. It’s a huge endorsement, because the awards are voted for by the van fleet operators themselves.”
