The Rodius is a huge people carrier from Korean maker SsangYong. Takes seven people in acres of space, comes well equipped and has a sub-£15k price tag.

What’s hot?

  • The price – it’s the same as a Focus diesel
  • The amount of space on offer: four captains’ chairs, one bench seat
  • …and you get a decent sized boot as well
  • Plus an interior full of practical touches: bottle holders, swing up tables
  • Generous spec includes air con, remote locking, fog lights
  • Five-cylinder diesel creates tuneful noise

What’s not?

  • Those looks – they really are, at best, controversial
  • Lack of a sixth gear on the motorway
  • High emissions put it in the 35% tax band
  • Poor quality radio/cd player

The low down

  • Price £14,740
  • Company car tax band 35%
  • Monthly company car tax £86 (20%) / £172 (40%)
  • Engine 2.7-litre 5cyl diesel
  • CO2 emissions 23g/km
  • Power/Torque 165PS/340Nm
  • Fuel economy 32.1mpg

Business Car Manager road test verdict

There’s one thing the SsangYong Rodius delivers by the bucketload: value.

It’s a lot of space for the money and a very good specification in this, the ‘base’ spec model. It’s not the most stylish on the market by a long way, but the SsangYong Rodius provides good value transport for business car drivers on a budget who need big family transport.

It should also appeal to taxi firms, too, for it’s a highly viable option as it’s easy for passengers to get in and out of the cabin. There’s also the added attraction of a SsangYong three-year/250,000 mile warranty for all ‘hire and reward’ buyers of the Rodius.
