The trial will see the three V60s cover up to 20,000 miles each over the eight-month period – in a grueling and fastidious test of endurance and suitability.

Funded by the Department for Transport and Transport for London, PIFI aims to demonstrate where plug-in vehicles can work practically to maximize and fulfill business needs. Throughout the trial, Tristar will monitor running costs and mileage data as well as overall driver and customer feedback before compiling a final report at the end of their term.

Selwyn Cooper, Volvo’s national corporate operations manager, said: “The V60 Plug-in Hybrid is the perfect vehicle for chauffeurs as it pairs luxury with a smooth and quiet driving experience. During the trial Tristar can look forward to reducing their overall running costs as well as placing their clients in the back of one of the safest cars on the road today.

“But it’s not just chauffeur companies that will benefit,” continued Selwyn.

“For SME company car fleets there are plenty of savings to make the car a viable option if you add together the 100% first year writing down allowance, a predominance of business miles that can also benefit from tax relief up to 40%, and allowing for scheduling when tax payments are due.

“Now factor in the running costs over a 4-5 year period, along with maintaining environmental values, and the case for the Volvo V60 Hybrid becomes even stronger.”
