IMAGINE one of those little Audi TTs in your company car park being able to match a 190mph+ – a dream? No, a soon-to-happen reality.

That’s because the German car maker will take off the wraps from a 600PS powered special TT clubsport turbo concept at this year’s Wörthersee Tour festival this week.

It showcases just how much Audi can squeeze out of its 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol when a revolutionary electric turbo charger is strapped to it.

This motoring equivalent of the hairdryer treatment also delivers a whopping 600PS of power plus 650Nm of torque allowing the TT clubsport to claim a 0-62mph sprint of 3.6 seconds.
What’s more Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi board member for technical development says it’s not far off being on the production line.

He said: “The electric biturbo signifies a new dimension in driving enjoyment; it boosts sprinting ability and torque and enables high peak power. In our TDI engines, we are close to production readiness with this technology. We are now presenting it in a TFSI – here too, we are the first automaker in the world to do this.”

An electrically powered compressor draws energy stored in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery stored in the boot and promises to almost eliminate any turbo lag.
