Ultra clean Toyota Prius has 70mpg plus economy

The all-new Toyota Prius hybrid goes on sale this summer.

Prius Mk3 features a re-worked 1.8-litre engine and hybrid system. Plus better aerodynamics.

The changes give the Toyota Prius ultra clean emissions of 89g/km. And exceptional fuel economy of 72.4mpg. It places the Prius in the 10% company car tax band.

The new Toyota Prius promises more than just low fuel consumption. Running charges will be kept low as the car qualifies for free road tax and is exempt from the London Congestion Charge.

The first Toyota Prius went on sale in 1997. And the third generation Prius remains the only hybrid capable of running exclusively on its electric motor.

The first Toyota Prius went on sale in 1997. And the third generation Prius remains the only hybrid capable of running exclusively on its electric motor.

“This capability – to switch between electric motor and petrol engine, or run on a combination of both – is unique to the full hybrid system,” commented Tadashi Arashima, president, Toyota Motor Europe at the car’s unveiling at the Geneva motor show.

“It is this quality that separates us from our competitors, and their ‘mild hybrid’ alternatives.”

Toyota plans to build on Prius with a further 10 hybrid models by 2010.
