VAUXHALL is getting firmly back into the green groove with the announcement of an all-new electric car for 2017, called the Ampera-e.

Vauxhall says the new Ampera-e will have a longer battery life than most electric cars and that pricing will be affordable.

The new car will be a five-door hatchback combining innovative electric-mobility with state-of-the-art connectivity and exciting driving dynamics, says Vauxhall.

Announcing the Ampera-e today at the CAR Symposium in Bochum, Germany, GM Chairman & CEO Mary Barra said:

“GM and Vauxhall has always been convinced that electric cars will play a defining role in future mobility. The game-changing technology of the Ampera-e is a significant step toward realizing that vision. Our new battery electric car is also another boost for Vauxhall’s reputation for making innovative engineering widely accessible.”

Dr Karl-Thomas Neumann, from Opel, Vauxhall’s parent added: “The new Ampera-e will open the road to electric mobility by breaking down the barriers of high price and short driving range.”
