SUZUKI is readying a new low-emission petrol engine option for the Swift. The move follows the withdrawal of the previous 1.3-litre diesel earlier this year.
The new engine has a capacity of 1.2 litres and relies on “Dualjet” twin fuel injectors to boost efficiency, allowing the Suzuki Swift to turn in a combined fuel consumption of 65.7 mpg, a sixteen per cent improvement over the current petrol engine.
Better still, with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km the revised Suzuki Swift will be exempt from road tax.
Maximum power is 90 PS compared with the 94 PS produced by the current engine, although torque, at 120 Nm, is up slightly from 118 Nm.
Gear ratios have also been tweaked, and Suzuki is now also fitting Engine Auto Stop Start (EASS).
The Dualjet engine will initially be available as an option on the Suzuki Swift SZ4 two-wheel drive models for a premium of about £500. Final prices will be confirmed closer to the arrival of the new engine early next year.
