VINCE Cable, MP for Twickenham, is to Chair Business Car Manager’s SME Company Car of the Year Awards 2014.

Now in its second year, the Awards recognise how well car manufacturers are meeting the needs of small businesses and SME small fleets with low emission cars, bespoke dealer programmes and after sales service.

Mr Cable has been a strong supporter of small businesses both within his constituency and within the UK. Business Car Manager, a small business itself, is based in Mr Cable’s constituency.

The involvement of Mr Cable signifies the importance of SMEs in leading the country out of recession and also the crucial role vehicles play in the efficient running of businesses.

October saw the 20th successive monthly rise in new car registrations according to the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders, with the forecast for 2.5 million units by the year’s end. The automotive industry is also playing a vital part in the resurgence of the UK economy, accounting for £59 billion turnover and more than 700,000 jobs

Ralph Morton, editorial director of Business Car Manager, said: “We are privileged that Vince Cable MP has agreed to Chair our judging panel. As recent figures suggest, it’s been a bumper year for new car sales. SMEs are increasingly confident of growth and are investing in vehicles to take advantage of the improving economy.

“Our readers need to know the most cost effective, tax efficient and appealing cars to run for their operations and which dealers they can turn to for genuine small business support. The awards will rubber-stamp the best available cars and programmes for the SME market.”

The SME Company Car of the Year Awards are supported by MAGMA Automotive Services, specialists in the automotive industry and in the SME sector in particular.

Mr Cable, as well as being MP for Twickenham, is also Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.
