VOLKSWAGEN has unveiled a new estate version of the Volkswagen Golf R at this week’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
It is the first Volkswagen Golf R in an estate body-shell.
Like the Volkswagen Golf R hatch, the estate is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine developing 300 PS and 380 Nm of torque, which is mated to a six-speed DSG gearbox and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.
The sport suspension is lowered by 20 mm, and the ‘ESC Sport’ mode can be deactivated for use on a race track if required.
The Volkswagen Golf R Estate can accelerate to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds, and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Combined fuel consumption is 40.4 MPG and CO2 emissions are 163 g/km.
UK Volkswagen dealers are due to start taking orders for the Golf R estate in spring 2015, with first deliveries to customers following in the summer.
