Mercedes-Benz is launching a compact city van in autumn 2012
FOR small business traders and SME delivery firms working in and around cities this has to be exciting news.
A compact Mercedes van for urban deliveries adding a bit of class to the delivery round.
The big guns at Mercedes have named their new van Citan.
According to Mercedes, its a derivation of ‘City’ and ‘Titan’ – “it emphasises the vehicle’s role as a high-calibre specialist in city logistics, designed specifically for the rough and tumble of everyday working life,” said a Mercedes spokesperson.
Mercedes says it has designed the Citan van to to meet the needs of small business trades and SME van operators across the service industry, retail sector and most trades.
The Citan van features a surprisinly spacious load compartment within compact dimensions.
The Citan might be small, but it delivers the same big Merc van driving experience, durability and low fuel consumption epitomised in Mercedes’ bigger vans, such as the Vito and Sprinter.
There will be both economical and low-emission diesel and petrol engines – including a BlueEFFICIENCY package.
An electric Citan van is also in the planning – perfect for zero emission city work.
The Citan will be sold as a panel van, crewbus or MPV in a variety of lengths and weight categories.
The market launch of the Mercedes Citan van will take place in the autumn of 2012.
The Mercedes Citan van will make its public debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover.
