Circuit day with the Honda S2000
Negotiated the early morning commuter traffic to head the CR-V down towards Brands Hatch in Kent. This is a place my dad used to take me as an eager youngster to to watch the non-championship F1 Race of Champions – including Dan Gurney’s victory in one of the most beautiful F1 cars ever made, the Eagle. And the fabulous BOAC 1000 sports car races in the sixties and early seventies.
These were heady days, sticking my head between the railings to better draw in the delicious nasal cocktail of Castrol R and burning rubber.
So, given the chance to drive round the circuit I once saw my heroes displaying their art was too good to give up.
Honda had arranged a preview of the new Accord in the morning, but I can’t say anything about that as it’s still under embargo. The afternoon, however, was given over to fang the latest Honda S2000 around the Brands Indy circuit.
The S2000 has been given some suspension tweaks and new style alloys, but otherwise it’s still the same great two seater roadster with a high-revving 240PS i-VTEC engine.
