131 – Budget date confirmed

Share

16 February 2009

The Chancellor Alistair Darling will be announcing his 2009 Budget on Wednesday 22 April. Apparently this is the latest it’s been held since 1945 – apart from general election years.

Given the Chancellor and PM received some hefty criticism from the CBI for not unlocking the credit flow, I suspect the Chancellor is hoping for some good news if he holds off long enough.

Have you found credit hard to come by? The CBI’s latest survey says it is – and it’s having a depressing effect on the economy. “Ultimately the severity of this recession will depend on the speedy implementation of the government’s measures to unblock the credit markets,” suggested Richard Lambert, CBI director-general.

However, Lambert did have some cheerier news: “During the second half of the year the impact of interest rate cuts, falling inflation, the relative weakness of Sterling, plus the fiscal boost, should start to have a stabilising effect.”

If you are looking for extra lines of credit, it may be worth looking at contract hire or personal contract hire for your next business car. It provides an additional credit line; and leaves loan facilities and bank overdrafts untouched.

Just a thought. Chancellor announces Budget on Wednesday 22 April
