240 – Portable bike lane

Share

9 July 2009

I CAME across this story in Auto Express last week. As the Tour de France is in full swing now, and Brit rider Mark Cavendish has two stage wins under his belt and the green jersey, I thought it worth running.

It’s a great little invention. An illuminated bike lane is projected from a rear bike lamp. It provides a visual envelope, allowing drivers to judge the edges of the cyclist’s safety zone more effectively – as well as providing better illumination for cyclists.

You can find out more about this developing project here: www.lightlanebike.com.

In the meantime, did you know that if you use your bike for business you can receive 20p per mile? It’s the same principle as the Approved Mileage Allowance Payments for cars (40ppm). And it’s tax-free.
