Boot dividing shelf: a brilliant idea but not yet executed properly

The surprise of engineering and design detail

Living with a car, you get to know its idiosyncrasies. You learn about the thoughtful touches the designers and engineers have put into a car. Along with those that don’t quite work.

Take, for example, the Honda CR-V’s door grab handles. A shiny silver on the side visible to driver and passenger. But on the inside of the grab handle there’s a rubberised grip to make sure you can close the door firmly. It’s a little touch that’s quite brilliant. An engineer or designer had really thought about this process
