All spruced up: Audi A6 after a wash and brush up

Business Car Manager: Editor’s Blog

BLACK cars – like my Audi A6. They do look so good when they are clean and sparkly. But with a build up of dirt and grime, they quickly look grey and dull. And a bit flat. And, well, a bit ordinary.

I know it’s the same thing for white cars too – and we have both (Alison has a Fiat 500 in white).

So it was a real pleasure to come home from a cycle through the park to Kingston town centre to find the car looking fabulous, the Audi A6 sitting in the drive all sparkly black paint. My son Matt had cleaned his own car – and had taken it on his own shoulders to clean mine too. Top bloke! (The downside might be the number of beers in recompense of course!)

I’d actually enjoyed a lovely day cycling through the park with my wife Alison. It’s not often we get a break from the pressures of work and family to take some time out to look around and have some lunch out together. But then I guess that’s the same for most small business owners.

The only downside was Alison’s back wheel broke on the way back; a couple of the spokes broke leaving the wheel buckled. It was strange. Alison hadn’t hit a pothole or bump. We were going through the park gates and suddenly the back wheel seized. Unclipping the rear brakes freed it enough for the journey home.

Oh well, guess it’s a trip to the excellent Birdies Bikes in Hampton to fix it on Monday morning.
