IF you have ever fancied a 174mph SUV then look no further than the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+.

If we were being sensible we would know there probably isn’t much need for an SUV that can hit those kind of speeds. That doesn’t stop us all wanting one. There are countless SME car parks crying out for such a wonderful example of unrestrained German engineering.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ is available to order now in four guises. There is a standard and S version of both the SUV and the sleek new coupe version. All four are massively tempting. It should also go without saying that this won’t be the car of choice if you are concerned with such mundane matters as fuel economy and emissions.

All four variants use the same handbuilt 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine coupled with the AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed transmission. In standard form the engine produces 476bhp that pushes the car to 60mph in under four seconds. The S variant is even more powerful with a massive 510bhp and even faster acceleration.

In standard set up the top speed is limited to 155mph but Mercedes-AMG are offering a performance package that will remove that limit. Yes, it’s an optional extra that will cost not far short of £3,000, but increasing the speed to 167mph in the standard car, 174mph in the S versions, might tempt you to dig deeper into your wallet.

If not we’re sure you can cope. Considering the depth of standard specification in the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 there will plenty of other wonderful things to keep you occupied.

Impressively equipped interior

On the inside you get an Online infotainment system, AMG sports seats with Nappa leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and a memory package for the electrically operated seats. Optional extras include keyless operation, LED intelligent lights, panoramic roof, and various other little upgrades.

Exterior details include AMG high-performance brakes, sports suspension, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The S variant upgrades the wheels to 20-inch twin-spoke alloys and adds a few extras on the inside too.

If you really want to go for broke then the range topping Edition 1 specification is the one to choose. As well as an exclusive selenite grey finish with yellow decals, the Edition 1 also boasts ceramic brakes, performance exhaust system, and 21-inch wheels. This highly specified version also adds an upgraded surround sound system, performance seats with contrast stitching, AMG Night package, and keyless operation.

Now you really want one let’s talk about the price. You won’t be surprised to hear that none of the above comes cheap.

The entry-level GLC 63 will be priced from £68,920, the S version from £75,670. Opt for the coupe version and the prices rise to £71,410 and £78,160 accordingly. If you do find the Edition 1 most tempting you will find yourself on the wrong end of a bill for more than £90k. And that is regardless of which variant you choose.

Now you know how much they cost you can ignore the price. Luckily you can always lease your new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+, a quick phone call to your leasing provider should set the ball rolling.

Well, what are you waiting for?
