FOR a moment, I must admit, my jaw slackened and headed on a downwards trajectory towards the table. The reason? When I was told businesses can see, on average, a 25% reduction in business mileage claims for fuel. Pardon?

Amanda, with whom I was having lunch last week, assured me it was true.

Given the current price of fuel, this is some revelation.

“At The Miles Consultancy we see on average a 25% reduction in the amount of mileage claimed by drivers, and expenses paid out when companies take up our fuel auditing system,” confirmed Amanda.

“The number of business miles claimed by drivers almost invariably falls when they are required to record journeys on a proactively audited mileage capture system,” continued Amanda. “The overall number of miles stays the same
