Mazda fleet and remarketing director Peter Allibon with a Mazda6

Fleet boss of Mazda Peter Allibon: spider trouble has caused a recall problem in the States for the Mazda6

Spiders cause Mazda6 recall in North America

MY son popped me over this story and it made me giggle – so I thought I’d share it here because it’s so daft. The humble arachnid has brought about a recall of Mazda6 models.

How?

Well, according to a report on the BBC website, yellow sac spiders have found their way inside the fuel lines of Mazda6 models during the production process causing – improbable though it may seem – a possibility of fire.

So Mazda has issued a recall on the Mazda6 in North America to have the eight legged creatures chased out of the system!

I had to contact Peter Allibon, fleet boss at Mazda UK, and ask him what it was all about. Having agreed it was bizarre, Peter did say that any businesses with Mazda6 company cars need not worry – it only affected North American built models.

“I understand that the spiders got in the fuel system and this can cause the fuel pressure to rise,” explained Peter. “It could, in theory, lead to an issue, so a recall was announced.”

It’s a strange one certainly. And why the Mazda6? It can only be that there must be an infestation somewhere in the plant, and the creepy crawlies have scampered where they shouldn’t.

Can’t imagine what state the spiders must be in, though, having sniffed all that fuel vapour. Pity the Mazda technicians who have to deal with the recall: yellow sac spiders can bite painfully!
