FIT YOUR neckbraces. This is going to be awesomely quick. We’re talking 503PS, eyeballs to the backs of their sockets 660Nm torque and 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds (0-124mph in just 10.9 seconds!).

So demure as the Audi A1 city car, the A1 clubsport quattro is the opposite: an A1 on steroids. And then some.

Using the classic Audi five-cylinder engine (don’t you love that sound?) – 2.5 litres with turbocharging and direct fuel injection – also seen in the Audi TT RS and RS 3 Sportback, it’s been beefed up with dollops of Audi DTM (touring car racing, German style) tech as well, such the Audi A4 DTM tailpipe, located on the left-hand side just fore of the rear wheel. Weight has been trimmed too – just 1,390 kilograms.
