Editor’s Blog on Audi PCP and contract hire deals

WHAT would you spend £359 a month on? True, a sizeable chunk of cash. But if it was a car, a not unreasonable amount if you wanted something plush and executive-looking to reflect your business.

True, you could be in a Honda CR-V diesel SUV for slightly less; or a Mercedes C200 CDI SE for slightly more. Alternatively, you could look at the Audi A6 – now that Audi has pulled down the rentals on its Audi A6 Saloon and the A6 Avant estate model (see our news story Lower lease price for new Audi A6 Avant).

Which makes my Audi A6 2.0 TDI SE look even better value…for those of you thinking of getting one (too late for me).

From my own experience I can tell you that you’ll be able to relax over long-distances in peace and quiet; perhaps listen to the excellent audio system; or enjoy all the bits that really pamper you now you don’t have to think about them (auto headlamps, wipers and so on).

And all for what? Audi’s now doing the 177PS 2.0 TDI SE model at £359 a month on a PCP deal (that’s where you have the option of buying the car at a later date – or not), or £359 a month on contract hire (+ the VAT). It seems a fairly painless way of enjoying relaxed executive motoring.

Audi can do this because the A6’s residual values are on the climb – from authoritative insider information I saw recently.

But what Audi does have now, though, which wasn’t available initially for me, is the ability to ringfence your service and maintenance costs on the A6 Saloon.

“We’ve introduced Audi Complete where you can include the costs in the PCP product for £399 a month, or Service and Maintenance for contract hire which takes the rental to £379 a month,” explained Amy Wand to me earlier this week, who is the product manager for A6 and A7.

If you don’t want financial surprises, this is not a bad way to budget so all your costs – bar the fuel and insurance – are smoothed over the three years.

In the meantime, I’ve treated mine to some extra tlc with a valet car wash to get rid of the summer dust build up…and ready for those autumn leaves!
