Fiat 500 Abarth

Abarth 500

Abarth 500

What is it?

THE car that could make the Abarth badge as famous as GTI or RS. Super hot Fiat 500 gets 135bhp 1.4-litre turbo engine, a muscular bodykit, tweaked and lowered suspension and uprated brakes. Keen price, too.

What’s hot?

  • Styling screams ‘buy me’…
  • …with low chin spoiler, bold alloys and neat Abarth badges
  • Cabin gets great sports seats and chunky steering wheel
  • Turbo engine provides storming punch with 0-60mph in 7.9secs
  • Stiff suspension means no body roll and tons of grip
  • Sport mode sharpens throttle and steering response
  • Still economical at 43.5mpg and cheap to tax
  • Only 700 available this year so strong residuals likely

What’s not?

  • Steering is over-assisted and lacks feel…
  • …slackness to brakes and gearchange add to lack of precision
  • Seating position too high. Steering only adjusts for rake
  • Cabin quality patchy

Business Car Manager Road Test Rating

A car that’s impossible not to love. The Abarth 500 may not have the deftness and balance of a MINI Cooper, but it’s better looking, faster and still lots of fun to drive. Throw in that bargain price tag and it’s a very tempting proposition!
