In the right conditions, it’s a brilliant drive, and it’s pretty good at dodging tax too.

In bold colours, it looks brilliant – and it was at its best being chucked around the Isle of Man at the launch

What’s hot

  • Stunning design, especially in bold colours.
  • Interior is distinctive and stylish.

This intriguing little button is a 2-edged sword. The DNA switch lets you boost the MiTo’s power – but without it, things are rather flat
  • Decent size boot.
  • Uconnect system works well, accepting various music devices.
  • Sat nav, where fitted, is clear and quick thanks to TomTom input.
  • Official economy figures are impressive.
  • DNA switch allows you to release more power for better driving performance.
  • Six-speed gearbox is quick and slick.

What’s not

  • Ride is firm but still allows a fair degree of body roll.
  • Rear seats quite cramped, especially for adults.
  • Boot has a large lip to lift items over.
  • Switching the car to ‘Normal’ holds back the car, feeling artificial as it does so.
  • Quite a lot of road noise at all times.
  • Fit and finish is some way off the best in class.
  • Too expensive against its rivals.
